TCF Canada Tâche 3: The Immigration Topic (Model Answer)
Sooner or later a TCF Canada candidate draws a sujet de société that feels loaded — immigration, gender equality, religion at school. The instinct is to panic and give a careful, empty answer. That is the worst outcome available, because a vague answer gives the examiner nothing to reward. Here is a full Tâche 3 monologue on exactly that kind of topic, filmed in exam conditions, and the method behind it.

First: the examiner is not judging your politics
This is the single most useful thing to know before you sit down. The marking criteria are task completion, coherence, range of language and pronunciation. There is no criterion for having the right opinion. So the question to ask yourself is not « what do I really think ? » but « which position can I defend for four and a half minutes, in French, with examples I already have ? »
Usually that is the position with the most concrete illustrations attached to it — which, on this topic, is the one the candidate takes in the video.
The three-axis plan
Instead of two arguments and a counter-argument, this answer uses a different reliable shape: one position, then three distinct angles on it. It works on almost any société topic, because nearly everything can be looked at economically, culturally and socially.

Memorise the triad économique / culturel / social. On a topic you have never seen, it gives you three ready-made paragraphs before you have even started thinking.
Concede once, early
The answer opens with agreement — and immediately admits the other side: « même si bien sûr il faut reconnaître que l'intégration pose parfois des défis ». One clause. That is all it takes to show the examiner you are not reciting a slogan, and it protects the rest of the monologue from sounding naive.
On a sensitive topic this move is worth more than anywhere else. Acknowledge the difficulty, then argue your case anyway.
Hedging: how to cite without lying
The candidate refers to economic reports on immigrants contributing more in taxes than they receive — without inventing a percentage. Hedging phrases let you use knowledge you are only half sure of, and they are themselves a C1 skill. Keep a few ready:

Use what you actually know
The most convincing passage is not the statistics — it is the family who arrived, opened a business, and now employ people and keep a neighbourhood alive. Every candidate sitting the TCF Canada is, by definition, close to a migration story. That is material no textbook can give you, and it is exactly the kind of specific, lived example that lifts a mark.
What the examiner rewarded
- Position taken immediately, with the complexity acknowledged in the same breath.
- Three distinct axes rather than one idea stretched over four minutes.
- Varied evidence — hospitals, family business, food, sport, urban renewal.
- Hedged references instead of invented figures.
- A conclusion that returns to the opening position.
