TCF Canada Reading Test: A Full Mock (Série 2)
Reading strategy only becomes useful once you have tested it against the clock. This is the second complete compréhension écrite test on the channel: 39 questions, climbing from A1 to C2, with the correct answer shown after each one and the full correction at the end. Below is how to use it as a genuine mock exam rather than one more video you watch.
Le test
Série 2 · 39 questions · niveaux A1 A2 B1 B2 C1 C2
If you have not read it yet, start with the compréhension écrite strategy guide, which walks through Série 1 and covers how to budget the hour and read the question first. This article assumes that method and focuses on practice.
How the video works
Each question follows the same pattern: the document to read, then a reading window matched to the length of the text, then the right answer on screen. A short notice gets a short window, a long article gets a longer one. The complete correction is displayed again at the end, so you can mark yourself in one go.
That last detail matters. It means you do not need to stop the video at every answer: you can sit the whole thing as a test and correct afterwards, exactly like the real exam.
Sit it as a real mock
The real TCF Canada reading paper is 39 questions in 60 minutes. The video runs a little over half an hour because the reading windows are fixed for you, which makes it a slightly tighter rehearsal than the exam itself — no bad thing. To get an honest result:
- Number a sheet 1 to 39 before you press play, and write a letter for every question.
- Do not pause. If the answer appears before you have chosen, write your best guess anyway and move on.
- Cover the answers if you can — or at least, commit to your letter before the screen reveals it.
- No dictionary, no subtitles, no phone. You will not have them on exam day.
- Mark at the end using the full correction, not as you go.
A first run under these conditions tells you more than five relaxed ones. You will see exactly where your attention drops and which level starts costing you points.
The A1 → C2 progression
Like the real test, the questions get harder as you go. The difficulty does not rise gently in a straight line from your point of view — it usually feels easy, then suddenly heavy. Knowing the shape helps you pace yourself:
| Levels | What you read | Your job |
|---|---|---|
| A1 – A2 | Short, practical texts: the kind of thing you read in daily life. | Answer quickly and confidently. This is where you bank time. |
| B1 – B2 | Longer texts with a clear purpose and more detail to track. | Read the question first, then hunt for the passage that answers it. |
| C1 – C2 | Dense, nuanced texts where the answer depends on tone and implication. | Use the time you saved. A careful guess beats a blank. |
The most common mistake is the opposite of what people expect: not failing the C2 questions, but losing easy A2 and B1 points through rushing or overthinking. Those questions are worth securing first.
After the test: read your mistakes
Your score is only half the information. Go back through every wrong answer and sort it into one of three boxes:
- Vocabulary — you did not know a key word. Write it down with its sentence.
- Reading the question — you understood the text but answered a different question.
- Time — you ran out of window and guessed.
If most errors land in the same box, that is your training plan for the next two weeks. Vocabulary gaps need daily reading; question errors need slower, more literal reading of the options; time errors need more timed mocks like this one.
Words you will see on screen
The video itself is in French. These are the terms it uses to frame each question, worth knowing because the official instructions use the same vocabulary:
| French | English |
|---|---|
| la compréhension écrite | reading comprehension |
| une série | a test set (Série 1, Série 2…) |
| le document à lire | the document to read |
| un temps de lecture adapté à sa longueur | reading time matched to its length |
| la bonne réponse | the correct answer |
| la correction complète | the full answer key |
| dans les conditions de l'examen | in exam conditions |
From score to NCLC
For immigration, your raw result is converted into an NCLC level, and that level is what your application is judged on. Once you have counted your correct answers, enter them in the NCLC calculator to see where you stand. Do this after every mock: watching the number move from Série 1 to Série 2 is the clearest sign your practice is working. For more on what each level requires, see the scores you need for NCLC 7.
Keep practising
One mock is a measurement, not a preparation. Alternate this video with Série 1, then move to the compréhension écrite practice section for more documents. When you want the full exam experience, the exam simulator runs the official 60-minute countdown and calculates your NCLC score automatically. If your reading score is stuck at one level, you can book a lesson and we will work on the exact question types that are costing you points.
