What is the DELF exam?

The DELF exam is an official certification that evaluates your ability in the French language. During the exam, you will be tested in four key areas: listening comprehension, reading comprehension, writing, and speaking.

It is important to develop your skills in all four areas, because they are equally important in the exam.

You might now ask yourself: Which DELF level should I take?

Realistically, the A1 level is quite basic and usually does not add much value to a resume. The A2 level is similar, as it still represents a very elementary level of communication.

The B1 level, however, is where French certification starts to become truly valuable. Reaching B1 shows that you can communicate in everyday and professional situations and adapt to a French-speaking cultural environment.

Many French companies such as L'Oréal, Chanel, and Hermès value employees who have French language skills. In fact, some of these companies even provide language classes to help their employees continue developing their French.

For this reason, B1 is often considered the first DELF level that can bring real value to your professional profile.

Which level should I take for the DELF exam?

Realistically, the A1 level is useless and doesn't provide any real benefit to your resume. A2 falls within the same category as it doesn't really attest of any real applicable professional or social skill.B1 is the level that will actually bring value to your resume as it shows you're able to communicate in a professional context and evolve in a French culture environment.French companies like L'Oréal, Chanel, Hermès etc... always love this kind of skill and even offer to their employees classes to develop these skills

What are the proficiency levels ?

The levels shown below represent your progression in learning French. You begin at A1, the basic level, where you learn how to handle simple everyday situations and basic communication.

As you progress through the levels, your ability to understand and express yourself in French gradually improves. It is usually when you reach B1 that you become able to have more meaningful and deeper conversations with French speakers.

Reaching this level requires a bit of patience and consistent practice, but it is definitely worth the effort.

On average, you can expect to spend about two months progressing through each level, depending on your learning pace and the time you dedicate to studying.
